Publishing Courses

The following steps should be taken before a course can be published:

  • LXD is assigned a project in Trello.

  • The Update must be completed before copying and publishing. This also applies to a Refresh, Rebuild, or New Build.

  • Once complete, the course is copied from the DEV to BP.

  • The BP is synced to the Associations (Live sections).

  • Changes are made to the live section(s) and the Course Ready Notification Email is sent to instructors.

  • The Course must be published one week before the term start date.

Directions for Publishing Monday before the Term

Courses are published the Monday before launch. Follow the steps below to manually publish courses:

  • Open the Distance Education account in Canvas to make sure the class isn’t already published and check information against Trello and the Faculty Schedule.

  • Search for term, for example: DE-24-Feb or DE8W01.06.24.

  • Click “hide courses without students” to look at only the viable sections that are launching.

  • Check the modules to make sure they say “lock until” the start date of the class.

  • Go 1 by 1 through your sections and click publish in the top right corner of “Home”.

  • “Course status” will read unpublished (in red), then click publish.The button will appear green.

  • Canvas will show the courses as published if you re-search the course title in the DE account with a green checkmark next to the course title.

  • When done, select “published” on the Trello card. Note: You can use a provided script to publish instead of publishing manually. Please view the Running The Publish Script page for directions.
